Explore “Annie Leibovitz in Action,” a fresh exhibition showcasing portraits captured by the renowned photographer. Alongside her iconic and audacious photographs featured in publications like Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and Vogue, this exhibit introduces a collection of brand-new pieces exclusively crafted for Crystal Bridges, marking Leibovitz’s inaugural museum commission.
Upon Leibovitz’s initial visit to Bentonville for a photoshoot with Alice Walton, Crystal Bridges extended an invitation for her to craft something unique for the museum, providing her with the freedom to create without any constraints or restrictions.
“They didn’t ask what I wanted to photograph or where I wanted to go. I realized that I wanted to update my work. It was an opportunity to do something that I couldn’t do for anyone else. The strength of my work is seeing the pictures together, like brothers and sisters. That’s what makes it interesting. It’s full of history.”
Whether illuminating well-known figures or celebrating local champions, these artworks exemplify Leibovitz’s keen perspective and her determination to commemorate the remarkable moments of today. When viewed collectively, these images weave a comprehensive narrative. Spanning five decades, her illustrious career has captured the essence of queens, presidents, and rock stars, producing some of the most iconic portraits of our era.
