Tusk and trotter had so much potential to be a five star restaurant but i feel like it just falls a little short across the board. The food is good but feels like it’s missing an element. Some of the portions are a little small for “bar food” and can be pretty heavy across the board. The service was good, servers were friendly and attentive. The decor is nice. The cocktails are a little on the weak side considering the price point. I like tusk and trotter, but i think there’s definitely room for improvement.
I’ll start by saying the atmosphere was nice and the staff pleasant. The food here however is nowhere near the price point this restaurant is trying to attain. Pictured is a tiny, mushy piece of salmon they charged $34 for, as well as an over-cooked $18 burger that doesn’t come close to covering the bun. Very disappointed with this quality for the money.
I think the BOH might have just had an off night, but 3 out of our seven person party experienced over-salted mashed potatoes and asparagus. My protein was cooked well and seasoned well, just the sides. I suspect a simple taste test prior to service by the prep cook will help mitigate this in the future. It can be noisy, but that's to be expected for a busy restaurant (clearly popular). Service seemed a little stretched, but nothing our server couldn't handle. I enjoyed the experience overall, but food is a big factor in my ratings. I WILL return and try again in the future, and again, maybe an off night for the BOH.
My wife found another good place to eat as we were traveling back home. We both enjoyed our meal and our waitress was great.
Loved the local sources ingredients and the hog centric theme of the restaurant. !Pork rinds. Get this. You get a good amount and it crackles when it serves. I recommend garlic and parm seasoning Pomme fritte. Nothing special even with the seasoning. Turkey club. I like the buttered toast. Quality deli meat and quality accoutrements. Fyi. Wait to be seated. (Service lacked coordination and situational awareness. )
